Reru

$89

Reru is a Ghost theme for publications whose archive is worth browsing. A narrow icon rail replaces the menu across the top and never widens, so the reading column keeps its place; posts sit in a masonry feed at whatever proportions their images have, and a quiet sidebar carries featured posts, subscribe and authors. Six post layouts and a full set of page templates make it a complete publication rather than a blog.

A Rail Instead of a Menu

Above 1100px the navigation is a 64px column pinned to the left edge. It never expands and never widens, so it cannot push your content sideways. Hovering a row reveals what it is: a small label for a plain link, or a panel of child links for a group. A panel opens downward when there is room below the row and upward when there is not, so a group near the bottom of the window stays on screen. The rail ends with an account row: Subscribe and Sign in for visitors, or a member's name, plan, account and sign-out.

Six Post Layouts

Every post picks its own opening from the template dropdown in Ghost. The default leads with the text in a 696px reading column and puts the feature image underneath. Image Left and Image Right set a square image beside the title block, Image First leads with a wide image across the full content width, Video opens with the player, and No Image keeps the text header even when a feature image is set. The body, the sidebar and the close stay where readers expect them in every one.

A Complete Set of Page Templates

Beyond posts, Reru covers what a publication actually needs: a tags index with post counts and recent thumbnails, centered author cards, a membership page that fills its pricing grid from your Ghost tiers, a shop built from the editor's product cards, a contact form wired to any form service, and chrome-free sign-in and sign-up pages. Create a page, pick a template, and the layout does the rest.

A Feed That Settles Once

Ghost does not tell a theme how tall an image is, which is the awkward part of any masonry layout: you cannot reserve the right amount of space before the image arrives. Reru waits for each image, puts the card in whichever column is shortest at that moment, and then leaves it alone. Nothing that has been placed ever moves again, so the page does not rearrange itself while someone is reading it.

The first screen is revealed in one go; after that, cards fade in one at a time as they are placed. Below 600px the same cards become a compact list of thumbnail, title and byline, matching the rows in the sidebar. Choose whether the next posts arrive behind a Load More button or as the reader approaches the end of the feed.

Table of Contents, Sharing and Reading Details

Tag any post #toc and Reru builds a table of contents from its headings: a rail of tick marks at the screen edge that marks the current section as you read, opening into the full heading list on hover. The Share button opens a dialog that leads with a link preview of the post, a row of networks, and a copy-link field.

Around the reading experience: a progress line across the top of every post, a full-screen PhotoSwipe lightbox for images and galleries, syntax highlighting with a matching dark code theme, and a tag filter row that folds its overflow into a More menu with search a keystroke away. All of it respects reduced-motion preferences, and the primary navigation still renders without JavaScript.

Saved for Later

Every post carries a bookmark beside Share. One tap saves the post, the bookmark fills, and a bookmark in the header counts up. That header bookmark opens the saved list: image and title rows that open the post or drop it, with Clear all at the bottom. The list lives in the reader's browser, so it needs no account and never leaves their device. A single theme setting turns the whole feature off.

On Phones and Tablets

Below 1100px the rail hands over to a header carrying your logo, search, the saved-posts bookmark and a menu button. The menu, share dialog and table of contents open as sheets: a drawer you can drag closed on a phone, and a centered panel on a tablet. The feed becomes a single compact list so a phone reads the whole page as one column. Reru ships as a progressive web app, so a reader can add your site to a home screen.
